Privacy Policy
This policy explains what information the TrustedRide mobile app and the TrustedRide Coordinator service collect, how we use it, and how we protect it. TrustedRide is used by TrustedRiders (trained chaperones who escort passengers to and from appointments) and by the coordinators of the organizations they work with. Accounts are created by those organizations; there is no public sign-up.
Information we collect
From TrustedRiders using the app:
- Account details: name, email address, phone number and, if one is added, a profile photo.
- Location: precise location, only while you are on an active ride (including in the background during that ride), so your coordinator can arrange pickups and drop-offs. You can turn location sharing off in Settings → Location & Tracking.
- Messages: chat messages you exchange with your coordinator.
- Ride activity: rides you accept, decline, start and complete, with their times and status.
- Device and security information: a push notification token so we can send ride alerts, sign-in times, and the IP address and device type used to sign in or to accept the TrustedRider agreement.
About passengers: to arrange rides, the organizations we serve enter passenger details such as name, phone number, pickup and drop-off addresses, mobility needs, emergency contact and, optionally, a photo. Some of this is protected health information. We process it on behalf of those organizations under business associate agreements, and a TrustedRider can see a passenger's details only for rides assigned to them.
How we use information
- To run the service: assigning rides, showing routes, sending ride alerts and connecting TrustedRiders with their coordinators.
- To keep accounts and passengers safe: verifying sign-ins, keeping audit records of who viewed or changed ride and passenger information, and preventing misuse.
- To support the organizations we work with, as described in our agreements with them.
We do not sell personal information, show advertising, or track you across other companies' apps or websites. The app contains no third-party analytics or advertising software.
Who we share it with
- The organization you work with: its coordinators see ride status, chat messages and, during active rides, your location.
- Service providers that run parts of the service for us, under contract: Amazon Web Services (hosting, database, file storage, email and maps, covered by a business associate agreement), Expo and Apple (delivering push notifications).
- Navigation apps you choose: when you tap Navigate, the destination address is passed to Apple Maps, Google Maps or Waze, which handle it under their own privacy policies.
- When required by law, or to protect the safety of passengers, TrustedRiders or the public.
How we protect it
Information is stored in the United States on Amazon Web Services, encrypted in transit and at rest, with access limited to the people who need it and recorded in audit logs. We follow the HIPAA Security Rule for protected health information.
How long we keep it
We keep account and ride information while the account is active and for as long as the organization you work with requires under its agreement with us and applicable law. When an organization closes an account, it can no longer be used to sign in.
Your choices
- You can turn off location sharing and notifications in the app or in your device settings. Without location sharing, coordinators can't follow active rides.
- To see, correct or delete your information, or to close your account, contact your organization's coordinators or us at the address below.
Children
TrustedRide is for adults working with partner organizations. It is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their information.
Changes
If we change this policy, we will post the new version here and update the effective date.
